Bryan ISD Taps Leroy Morales for Expanded Role

The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved transitioning Leroy Morales into the newly expanded role of executive director, Human Resources and Support Services. Morales, the current principal of Mary Catherine Harris School (MC Harris), joined the district in October 2013. Since his hire, he has successfully lead the school, along with the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program and other programs. Highlighting his qualifications for this position, district officials cite his broad understanding of the departments that are fundamental to supporting student instruction and auxiliary services.

The position includes the duties of the previous director of Human Resources but has been augmented with significantly more responsibility. Morales will oversee aspects of human resources, recruit support staff and supervise all Auxiliary Support Services, which include School Nutrition Services, Transportation, Maintenance, Operations and Custodial Services.

Auxiliary Service departments were previously overseen by Business Services, which expects to spend significant time and energy on upcoming bond-related projects. The reorganization will allow the district to retool an existing vacant position to allow Business Services time to lead intensive bond projects.

Morales, a bilingual administrator and educator, served as associate principal of Cypress Springs High School before joining Bryan ISD as principal of MC Harris. Prior to that, he served as summer school principal at Cypress-Ridge High School and in a variety of student services and assistant principal positions at intermediate and high schools in Cypress Fairbanks, Klein and Aldine ISDs. His 25-year career is evenly split between 12 years as a classroom teacher and coach and, most recently, 13 years serving in administrative roles.

“Mr. Morales is a proven leader who brings a broad skillset to this position,” said Superintendent Tommy Wallis. “We’re fortunate to have his energy and experience serving this critical role in our district.”
